A loan of $375 helped to buy fish at wholesale.

Blanca's story

Blanca, 30 years old, is married to Jilder, with whom she has three children 14, 10, and 5 years old. Blanca sells fish, so she goes out to the local market very early to look for fresh fish, which she takes back to her father-in-law's house. Because the house is in a busy area of town, she sets up the fish in front of the house and waits for customers to come to buy high-quality fresh fish. She has been doing this work for about a year and works on her own since her husband works in another region of Peru and sends money back home to support the household. She likes her work because it gives her time to be at home doing other things. It also offers her a good income, and she hopes to be able to support herself and perhaps in the future set up a grocery store in her house. This is her second loan with Kiva, and she is grateful for the opportunity it provides to increase her working capital and generate higher earnings. She will use the requested loan of 1000 soles to buy fresh fish, as well as some trays and other materials so she can sell more comfortably and not have to use items belonging to her husband's parents.
