Merly's story

Merly, age 40, is a cheerful and enterprising woman. She is married to Roger, who is a public employee. Merly has her own home and lives there comfortably with her three children (ages 19, 13, and 3). She earns her living by selling food such as “salchipapas” (sausages and potatoes), fried chicken, pasta with chicken, and other dishes. Merly leaves early for the market so that she can buy all the necessary regional ingredients for preparing delicious dishes. Within her block, she has been crowned the best cook because of the good flavor of her food. Merly sells from the sidewalk near her house since it is a suitable place for conducting her sales. She has worked in this business for more than eight hears. Merly enjoys her job because it provides her with a diversion and she can generate an income at the same time. She is doing very well in her work and is able to generate a good daily income.

This is her fourth Kiva loan. Merly is very pleased to have financial backing so that she can increase her operating capital. In addition, she promises to submit her loan payments in a punctual manner. The amount of 1,500 PEN will be used to buy ingredients and supplies such as rice, potatoes, sugar, and other items for continuing her work. In addition, she will acquire a few utensils that she needs to continue her job.
