Raul is single and has a son. He lives in his parents' house, occupying three rooms. The house is situated in the Santiago II zone of the city of El Alto.

He currently works at a private company for more than eight hours a day, but with the income that he has, he must cover the costs of food, studies, and transportation, since he lives in the city of El Alto and his work is in the Southern zone. Thus he spends more on the trip in addition to covering the costs of basic services.

He needs the loan to pay for higher studies, since with this, he will improve his earnings to support his family. Raul's dream is to have his own architecture business, in order to improve his quality of life and later get a fixed-rent house to have greater comfort and security.

This is the first time he is working with IMPRO and with Kiva.

More information about this loan

IMPRO has been offering education loans through Kiva since June of 2011 to cover partial or complete expenses related to secondary and higher education.  The Bolivian government offers little support for higher education lending in the country, and universities cannot provide enough funding (either in grant or loan form) to satisfy student demand. By supporting this loan, you're enabling access to education for students with limited options.

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
