Saknat is aged 30 and is married with three children; one is still in school while another two are too young for school. She lives in a rural village of Kampong Cham province’s Ponhea Krek district. She makes a living through growing cassava and rubber trees. She has been in this business for almost 12 years and it gives her returns of about 32,100 KHR per day to support her family and their daily expenses.
Saknat has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before. Now she is seeking a loan of 2,000,000 KHR in order to pay for cassava plants. She will also use a portion of the loan to buy rubber for planting. She expects to get a higher crop yield and hence to get an increased income to support her family's needs.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
