A loan of $200 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Fortunata's story

Fortunata, age 64, is a hardworking woman. She lives in the house she inherited from her mother, along with her husband and one of their children. Every morning, Fortunata heads to her fields, where she has over 5 years experience planting crops such as corn, potatoes, and barley. She sells her harvest in the city of Pampas, at the Sunday market. She owns her fields free and clear, so through the years she has been able to save toward providing a decent retirement. "I like to plant. It's all I've learned since I was little, when my parents taught me to work the land and live off it," she says.

This is why she would like to improve her fields and continue planting. This is her second Kiva credit and she feels grateful for the financial assistance that she has received to help her keep on going. She is committed to making her payment in a timely fashion. Fortunata will invest the 500 Soles [PEN] in buying organic fertilizer to spread between her corn crops.
