A loan of $550 helped to buy everyday items such as groceries, food, carbonated drinks and soft drinks.

Carlos Mario's story

Carlos is 21 years old and works selling pre-paid cell phone minutes and ice cream. He uses the income from this business to support his spouse and one-year-old child. His goal is to expand his business and add groceries and soft drinks, because no other nearby stores sell these products. Carlos says he sees the need for this in his community.

The corner where Carlos lives and has his small business is in a good location. A few years ago it was a store that sold groceries and everyday items. He says this made him think he could take advantage of the potential of the location.

This is Carlos’ first loan with Kiva and the field partner. He will use the loan to buy everyday items such as groceries, food, carbonated drinks and soft drinks. With the loan Carlos hopes to advance his dream of a better quality of life. He will work to expand his business and generate more income to benefit his family’s well-being.
