Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,275 helped to purchase threads, fabrics, linings and cotton for her business.

Gulnoz's story

Gulnoz is a 29-year-old resident of Isfara. She is renowned in certain circles for her ages-old, in-demand craft; she knits krupa and krupacha. As seen in the photo, krupa and krupacha are cotton mats which Tajiks use in lieu of couches and chairs. Gulnoz has been making these mats for 2 years, and as her business has grown, her mother has come to help her as well. In tandem with her mat business, she also buys and sells towels and tablecloths.

Gulnoz' husband has gone abroad seeking work and has been away for some time already; she works hard to provide her 5-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son with food, clothing and all the necessities of daily life. She is requesting a loan to purchase threads, fabrics and cotton for her business, and looks forward to your support.
