Theavy is 37 years old and a villager from Takeo province. She strives for a living to support her three children who are in school. She does this through two hectares of rice cropping, Khmer noodle-selling, and a pig-raising business. It is the business that she has had for ages.

This is not the first loan for Theavy with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She has fully repaid her past loan wisely to support her living and to send her children to university level. Now, she is seeking a new loan to pay the tuition fee for her son, who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Phnom Penh, specializing in information technology.

She hopes that this loan will financially support her son’s education cost on time, so that he can pay attention in his studies and get a good job after graduation.

VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
