A loan of $575 helped to buy animal feed and construction materials.

Luz Margarita's story

Luz has been a member of the "10 de Agosto" [Tenth of August] loan group for 6 years, during which she has established bonds of friendship with all her friends and neighbors. She lives in Santa Ana Parish in Cuenca, where there is abundant vegetation and green fields of local agricultural products. From its center, one can admire a large part of the city of Cuenca, whose architecture is a blend of ancient and modern. The people are friendly, kind, and still maintain their culture and traditions.

Luz is 43 and is married. Her union has produced 7 children, ages 23, 20, 19,15, 13, 11, and 9. Her first child works and help out financially. The next two help with household chores. Two of the children are in secondary school, and the two youngest are in a local little grade school. Luz's husband is a construction worker and the house she lives in is her own.

She earns her living working in the fields, where she grows vegetables and uses the harvest both for the household and for sale. She also raises animals, including chickens, guinea pigs, pigs, and cows.

She plans to invest her loan in the purchase of feed for the animals and construction materials to finish the house.

Her goal is to buy a plot of land to expand the farm.
