Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,075 helped to buy clothing in bulk and fabric to make various items of clothing.

Evarista's story

47-year-old Evarista is a widow who lives in her own home along with her children. She runs a clothing stall in her local market, where she managed to set up in business more than 15 years ago, and offers her clients a wide range of ladies', men's and children's clothing. She is also knowledgeable about the textile industry and works as a seamstress, using a manual sewing machine to make alterations to different types of clothing and can even making bespoke clothing for her customers. She believes that her business is very profitable because the products she sells are purely for people who work mainly in agriculture and who come to the city at weekends to doing their weekly shopping. This is her second Kiva loan and she is grateful for this financial help which enables her to make ends meet. She is also committed to make her repayments punctually. On this occasion she would like to receive 3,000 nuevos soles to buy in bulk merchandise such as ladies', men's and children's clothing as well as fabric to make various items of clothing.
