A loan of $1,000 helped to buy agricultural supplies to grow coffee.

Vicenta's story

Doña Vicenta, 51, is the mother of three children. She is married and has worked as a housewife and in agriculture for many years. She could not finish school and left after the third grade. It was her family who taught her to grow coffee and other crops; it has been a tradition through many generations.

Her customers are different buyers and intermediaries that visit the region to buy and sell in other villages, but also neighbors and friends. She, her husband and children work in a piece of land of their own. It is located fifteen minutes away from home, which makes it easier for them to take care of it.

Vicenta has requested a loan at COMIXMUL in order to be able to prepare her land for growing coffee. She has already bought the plants but requires fertilizers: 10 quintals [around 1000 lbs.] of “24-12-12” [Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium in %], 12 quintals [around 1200 lbs.] of “18-46-0” [Nitrogen-Phosphorus in %], 9 kg. of “nutrí café” and 5 kg. of “evicet.”

Her plans and dreams are to continue building something to leave to her children, that they have land where to live and work, to acquire more land and to expand their plantations making them better, and more attractive and varied.
