A loan of $1,250 helped purchase agricultural supplies for her vegetable garden.

Adolfina's story

Adolfina is a 45-year-old married mother of six young children. All of her children are in different grades of elementary school and depend upon her and her husband. She herself did not finish primary school, completing through the fourth grade before working full-time at growing vegetables such as potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce and cabbage. She also grows simple grains such as beans. She and her husband have more than ten years of experience at this together.

The land that they work is their own thanks to an inheritance from her parents. The land is located ten minutes away from their house, and they go there daily to tend, clean, and fertilize their crop. They then sell their products in the local market to various middlemen who come to the area.

Adolfina is requesting this loan which she will use to invest in her crops by purchasing a large amount of certified potato seed, fertilizer and organic compost, as well as additional fungicides and insecticides.

Her future plans are to improve her harvests with an irrigation system to keep her crops healthy and well fed. She will also continue to grow her crops with greater quality and quantity so that she can offer more of both to her customers. Ultimately, she hopes be able to give her children a good education through higher levels of schooling.
