A loan of $1,150 helped to buy fertilizer, and compost, among others, for her coffee crops.

Nolvia's story

Nolvia is 42 years old. She is in an open relationship and is the mother of three children who are in other homes with their own families. She has no education since her parents could not support her, themselves having few resources. With her partner she makes a living in agriculture, with coffee cultivation as her specialty, which has generated the income needed to maintain and cover the different needs of the home for her family. She also cultivates other products like basic grains, corn, and beans, part of which she leaves for consumption and the other for commerce, like coffee. It was her parents who taught her to work the land at a very early age since the field of agriculture, especially the cultivation of coffee, is a tradition in her family. She has applied for funding from COMIXMUL, with which she will buy 12 quintals of fertilizer, 12 quintals of urea, and 7 quintals of coffee formula, which will protect her harvest from climatic changes and infestations, among others. Her short-term plans are to be able to increase the volume of the production of coffee, which would bring a higher income for her family, and to cultivate and sow a greater variety of coffee to become more competitive and attractive in commerce and to buyers, like caturra and catuay varieties.
