A loan of $1,025 helped a member buy cooking ingredients.

Kototala Group's story

Kototala is a group in the "Benkadi de Tiele" Association. The group is comprised of four women who know each other through family and neighbors. On average, they are 30 years old, married, and have fewer than three children.

They all have different businesses such as selling restaurant condiments and restoration activities. Kadiatou is the person seated at right. They live in large traditional families in Tiele, which is in the Kati prefecture (Koulikoro Region, Republic of Mali).

They have all had small businesses for a number of years and are well sought after in their businesses. In order to satisfy the growing needs of their customers, the group members decided to work with Soro Yiriwaso's loan program two years ago. This is their third group loan.

Kadiatou is the group president, is very well-known in Tiele, and excels in the preparation and sale of food dishes.

She would like to use her loan to buy cooking ingredients (onions, cabbages), meat, and grains. She buys her supplies in Bamako and with local wholesalers. She sells her food items in Tiele at retail, for cash and credit, and to both men and women.

She would like to earn a monthly profit of 25,000 FCFA, which will allow her to repay the loan and reinvest in her business.
