Benkadi Ii Group's story

The Benkadi II Group is composed of 4 women who know one another through ties of parentage and community. They average 50 years of age. They are married with an average of three children each. They run different businesses such as the buying and selling of grains and vegetables for making sauces. In the image, Kossira is the first seated person from the right to the left of the photo. They live in large traditional families in Tiele in the prefecture of Baguineda (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali). They have been in small business for several years and are very sought after in their businesses. In the interest of satistfying the growing needs of their clientele, the group members decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso loan program three years ago. They are on their third group loan. Kossira, who is the president of the group and very well known in Tiele, excels in the sale of vegetables for sauces. She expects to use her loan to purchase different types of vegetables for making sauces (peppers, tomatoes, onions, cabbage and Maggi bouillon cubes). She stocks up in Bamako from the wholesalers and resells in Tiele, at retail, for cash and for credit to a clientele made up of men and women. She hopes for a monthly profit of 20,000 f CFA, a sum which will allow her to repay the loan and reinvest in her business.
