A loan of $1,175 helped to expand his business into a wholesale shop.

Charles's story

Charles is 50 years old and lives in the town of Kajjansi in the Kampala west region of Uganda. He is married and has 10 children. Six of his children are currently in school. For the past 30 years Charles has been working hard to manage his retail shop which sells sugar, rice and soap.

To help expand his business Charles has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to expand his business into a wholesale shop and will help Charles to generate greater profits and to bridge the financial gaps in his business. Charles hopes that in the future he will be able to to expand his business.

Charles is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Charles who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but who have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
