A loan of $900 helped to buy pork.

Estrella's story

Estrella, 54, is a simple woman. She lives with her two children, Wilfredo and Yamileth, in the house she bought 10 years ago. For the last 20 years she has worked selling meat. She says that her job consists of buying pigs, particularly those which are heavy and healthy, which she then slaughters to sell the meat at local fairs. This brings in a good income, and she uses her good standing with customers to also sell beauty products. Things are going well for her, and she says that she sells more meat at festivals. A little while ago, she found a place to open her own chicharroneria (restaurant selling pork dishes), which will allow her to earn more money as she will be sourcing and preparing the meat herself. Business has been good, as the restaurant is located in a commercial district. This is her sixth loan with Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support she is receiving to be able to get ahead. She promises to make her repayments in a timely manner. Estrella will invest the 2,500 sols in buying pork to stock up her business.
