A loan of $1,025 helped to buy chicken guano and potato seeds.

Macario's story

Macario is 27 years old, single, and managed to finish high school. He lives at his father's, in the village of Tiraque, and has three children he raises on his own. Macario is a farmer, and reports that he sells, annually, a mean of 40 loads of potatoes, 38 loads of green peas, 30 loads of oats, 9 loads of wheat, and 10 loads of barley. He grows these crops on fields owned by his parents, so it does not cost him anything to use the land. The 3 hectares of land are located in the same village where they live. The whole community helps each other for agricultural work. Macario lives in a rustic house built out of sun-dried brick. He will use the loan to buy chicken guano and potato seeds, in order to improve his economic situation by selling the harvest, so as to give his children a better quality of life.
