Juan Pablo is single and does not have children. He lives in a rented house, occupying alone a room with brick walls. The house is located in the city of La Paz. Currently he works as a fast food delivery employee for more than 10 hours a day. He makes deliveries on a motorcycle, running great risks trying to arrive on time with the orders. And with the little that he earns he has to cover his expenses for food, education, rent and pay for basic services. Antichresis is a form of rent in which a fixed amount is paid and one can live for a specified time in a place. In this instance, a place that is more comfortable for him.

Juan Pablo’s dream is to finish his studies in law to and have his own law office. In this way he will improve his earning and his quality of life. This is the first time he has applied for a loan from IMPRO and KIVA.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
