A loan of $1,025 helped to buy pagnes [brightly colored fabrics].

Aminata's story

Born in Tombouctou (in the sixth administrative region of the Republic of Mali), Aminata is 41 years old, married, and a mother of eight children. She lives with her husband and her children in the Massablacoura neighborhood in the town of Bougouni (in the third administrative region of the Rebublic of Mali).

Aminata has been selling pagnes [brightly colored fabrics] for more than ten years. She runs this business and is very sought-after in the town. She learned this business from her mother.

In order to strengthen her business and satisfy her customers, she decided to work with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso. She is on her second loan, and her previous loan has been repaid correctly. With this loan, she will buy 15 lengths of pagne [brightly colored fabric]. She procures her goods in Bamako (the capital of the Republic of Mali). Her pagnes are sold for cash and sometimes for credit to men and women customers in town. Often, she also sells her goods in areas where people pan for gold.

With this loan she hopes to earn an average monthly income of 80,000 francs CFA. With these earnings, she expects to support her needs, pay the interest on the loan, and to expand her business.
