A loan of $1,450 helped to buy compost.

Flora's story

Flora is 32 years old and married to Elvis. They have two children and all live together in a rented home. Flora is a farmer who raises peas and potatoes, but she says that its more advantageous to raise peas because of their high price and because they can be harvested two or three times per year. “I usually plant three bags of seeds and I harvest 30 sacks per bag,” she says. Her husband works in a mine, bringing more income into the family. When he finishes his work with this company, he spends time working the land.

Flora is happy with her work in the field, because she likes her work even though it’s tiring and risky. She has the advantage that her products are mostly sold immediately, so she has no doubts about continuing her activity, no matter how tiring it is. One of her goals is to acquire more land on which to expand her harvest and keep planting.

This will be her fourth Kiva loan. She is happy for the financial support and promises to make her payments on time. She will use the S/4,000 to buy compost to feed her crops.
