Gëzim is a 37-year-old single male who lives with his father, sister and brother in the Ashkali community. His mother died many years ago. They own a small old house that is in need of renovation and has not had any repairs in the last several years. One of the main problems is the insufficient insulation, with the house losing much heat in the winter time. Gëzim is the main source of income for his family but he makes very little income working in a market and on the street selling mobile phones.

Every winter, it costs a lot of money to buy coal to keep the house warm. For this reason, Gëzim is requesting a loan for the first time to improve and address the insulation problem. This will then allow his family to live a normal and healthy life and save on the heating costs in the winter. He really appreciates this help!

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
