A loan of $5,450 helped to upgrade equipment and software to market her business and complete pending contracts.

Stefanie's story

SMRT Consulting Associates, LLC, pronounced “smart,” is operated by Stefanie and one other full-time employee. Both work to provide businesses and non-profits assistance when developing their business or looking to write competitive papers for potential grants. According to Stefanie’s website, the goal of SMRT is to help clients “build, sustain, enhance, and ultimately, succeed at making their business dreams a reality!” Read more here: http://www.thesmartconsult.com/home/.

After five years of guiding organizations and business, Stefanie decided to invest in a business of her own, providing assistance to anyone who needs it in her hometown of Baton Rouge. Starting with clientele helped Stefanie’s business, but she has greater objectives in mind. Her new plans are to recruit new clients through marketing and advertisements. She plans to upgrade equipment and software before printing any marketing materials. But she did not have enough funds to cover her expenses while completing pending contracts and caring for her two children, for whom she is the sole financial provider.

Knowing of Stefanie’s struggle, a friend informed her about Accion Texas, Inc., a nonprofit microlender. Stefanie visited the organization with America’s largest microloan portfolio, applied for a loan and was approved.

With the help, Stefanie was able to purchase everything on her wish list, complete those pending contracts and retain her current employee. She plans to hire two more full-time employees. She says without the funds, her financial situation would not permit her to acquire the necessary equipment, software and supplies needed to complete work, market her business, attract new business, and therefore, maintain or increase her business and income.
