Angella Milagros's story

Ángela, 19, is a young owner of a beauty shop in a town very near Barranquilla. She has three years’ experience; she started the business in 2009 which is a tradition in her family especially among the women in her home like her grandmother and her mother.

Ángela has noted her entire life that the beauty salon business generates significant profits which is why she decided to go into her own autonomous business venture keeping in mind that because of her aptitude it was easy for her to learn and practice it.

The types of services she provides are related to haircuts, hair treatments, manicure and pedicure, among others. She’s paid for her services at the time she provides them which is why she works Monday to Sunday from 8 in the morning until 10 at night.

She makes her purchases at wholesale from large wholesalers that offer special prices and with whom she’s established a good alliance that carries with it the opportunity to obtain products on special offer from them.

Her main customers are local neighbors that have gotten to know her. Her goal to reach is to become well-known in the city and later on to finish her schooling. Her greatest challenge is insufficient working capital to be able to work with more flexibility in her business.

Ángela is currently requesting a Kiva loan, her first loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, by means of which she will make some physical improvements to her shop and will buy some supplies to open a new beauty salon to extend her personal and professional image beauty improvement services to other sectors.
