Rebecca's story

Rebecca is a 38-year-old businesswoman from Liberia. She is presently unmarried and has four children between the ages of nine and 19. Rebecca describes herself as hardworking. She lives in Nimba, a county in Liberia that shares a border with Guinea and Cote D’Ivoire. Because of its status as a border county, trade is the primary activity in the region. It also has the second highest population in Liberia.

For the past five years, Rebecca has run a restaurant where she sells rice and soup. She started her business with money from her husband and she works 13 hours a day. Rebecca’s greatest business challenge is the price of rice and oil. She is requesting a loan to buy more rice and oil for her business. Rebecca likes her business because it keeps her busy and she hopes to one day to buy a car.
