A loan of $1,025 helped a member to purchase condiments.

Djekafo Group's story

The Djekafo group consists of five married women with an average age of 35 years and three children. They live in traditional extended families with their husbands, co-wives, brothers and sons in the village of Méridièla. They are long-standing neighbours, friends and business partners. They are on their 7th loan with Soro Yiriwaso, a microfinance institution which they joined to support their businesses' financial capacity. The six previous loans have been repaid.

This group of women trades condiments. Diatou is the woman standing at the far right of the photo. With this loan, she intends to buy with five boxes of Maggi cubes (a brand of bouillon cubes) from wholesalers in Bamako. She makes her sales at the market and at home, accepting both cash and credit, primarily to women. She hopes to make an average monthly profit of 21,000 FCFA, which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay the loan.

In this group: Diatou, Moussokoura, Deble, Sanata, Madie
