A loan of $4,525 helped a member to buy a sales stall.

Nueva Amistad Group's story

The communal bank "Nueva Amistad" (New Friendship) will begin its sixth loan cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Pan American Focus Point. It is made up of eight members and directed by a Board of Directors of which Brigida is the secretary. The businesses that the communal bank's members are moving forward are varied. Among them are: backpack sewing, fish sales, vegetables sales, crafting of Awayos (traditional Bolivian weavings), a grocery store, sock sales, and sportswear sewing. The loan they will take out will benefit small scale micro-entrepreneurs, one of which is Brigida. She says that two years ago, she joined Pro Mujer, entering at the invitation of her friends who are partners of the institution and who told her about the type of work that they were doing there. Currently, she has a weaving business and sells macrame blankets. She started this business five years ago, learning from the help she gave her mother in the same business. The loan she will take out is for the expansion of her business. She will buy a sales stall that she will acquire at a regional fair in the city of El Alto, in order to be able to settle into a location and not have to walk around to different places. This type of work permits her to generate resources for her family since she is married and has five children. When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the health and credit trainings.
