For almost a year, Maria has sold hospital scrubs and uniforms for practitioners in the medical industry. Visiting medical sites, which she often does to recruit clientele, Maria informs current and prospective clients about her business, and sometimes sells the items on the spot.
Aside from contacting businesses, Maria works hard to get more clients and more business. Around the city of El Paso, she has relied on friends to spread the word of her business and has also taken matters into her own hands by releasing flyers and bulletins about her business around town.
As a first-time entrepreneur, Maria, she knew she needed advice, so she approached nonprofit microlender Accion Texas Inc. for a loan. Once she applied, Maria was swiftly approved for a Promesa loan, which allowed her to purchase inventory. With a new set of designs added to the line of uniforms she makes, Maria retained two jobs and has potential to generate more sales.
