A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase farm inputs, such as fertilizer.

Benkadi Iii Group's story

The nine members of the group "BENKADI III" of the BENKADI association are married women, who average 35 years of age and three children each, all living in traditional families in MISSANSO, a village in the 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali (Sikasso). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their sixth farm loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crops grown include peanuts, corn, and chili peppers, as is the case with ASSETOU, who is standing second from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase fertilizer to maintain 1 hectare. After the harvest, the produce is sold to a customer base composed of men and women in the village and at the market.

She plans on making a profit of 85,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.
