Benkadi 6 Group's story

The ten members of the Benkadi 6 group are married women who are on average 45 years old, have five children, and live in traditional families in DJIGONSSO, one of the villages in BOUGOURA, the fourth administrative region of Mali. They are working with microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to be able to see through their agricultural businesses in the rainy seasons. They are on their fourth loan with the institution, and all of their loans have been properly repaid. SITAN ZE, the second one standing from the left in the photo, grows peanuts. With her loan, she plans to buy ingredients, seeds, and small agricultural tools and to pay for the labor to maintain 0.5 hectares. The crops will be sold at the village and market after the harvest to a clientele made up of men and women. She plans to make a profit of 72,500 FCFA at the end. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
