A loan of $725 helped to purchase organic compost.

Antonia's story

Antonia, who is 42-years old, is a hard-working woman. She lives with two of her five children in her own home. At a very young age, she learned what she needed to know about caring for her plantings of peas, lettuce and corn. She says that her specialty is vegetables. She is known for being very detail-oriented, and these plants need a lot of care so they don't wither. That is why she earns good money from her harvests and was able to buy her own home not long ago. Now she hopes to improve her produce, as the demand requires her to be selective. Her older sons taught her that, as they earn their livings in agriculture like Antonia. She also states that as farming earns her money after a number of months, she raises cows and bulls to sell to the butchers in the area. That gives her a regular source of income. This is Antonia's first loan with Kiva, and she feels grateful for the financial help she is receiving to keep working toward getting ahead. In addition, she promises to make her payments punctually. Antonia will invest the S/.2000 (USD $725) in the purchase of organic compost to nourish her sown fields.
