A loan of $875 helped purchase groceries.

Mariela De Los Angeles's story

The Unión De Mujeres Community Bank meets in the beautiful city of Calceta, known by the name "Calceta without equal" for the beauty of its women and because for its residents there is no city more beautiful in the world.

This is where Mariela lives. She is 43 years old and is in a common law relationship, by which she has four children who are 21, 19, 14, and 13 years old. All her children live at home with her, and her two youngest children are enrolled in high school. Her husband works as an official bus driver.

In order to cover her share of the household expenses and schooling for her children, Mariela opened a small convenience store six years ago where she sells foodstuffs and snacks. With the assistance of her first loan she purchased the necessary supplies to prepare meals to deliver during parties and receptions. Each weekend she is contracted to prepare food that will be served during all kinds of social events. She works together with her children to cater all of these meals.

This loan will be used to purchase grocery items for preparing meals. Mariela has been a member of this community bank for six years and she likes it because she was able to start her business with her first loan.

Her dream is to have all her children finish their studies.
