A loan of $3,400 helped a member to buy fertilizer.

Los Cafetaleros Group's story

Gregorio is married and is 48 years old. He did not have an opportunity to get an education because his parents were poor. He has 5 children, one of whom is in school. He is a farmer who cultivates coffee. He started this business by buying some plants, and he realized that they could generate earnings. At this date, he has 10 years of experience. His wife supports him in the business.

He is organizing a communal bank to request a loan that he will use to buy fertilizers. This way, he can fertilize 15 cuerdas (around 3.5 acres) of coffee plants. In the future, he wants to have more land so that he could cultivate more crops to increase his earnings.

The other members of this communal bank also work in agriculture. In the photograph, 11 members appear, but only 8 of them were granted this loan.
