Dembagnouman Group's story

The Dembagnouman group is made up exclusively of married women with an average age of 27 years and 3 children each. They all live in traditional extended families in the village of Warassala, town of Guégneka, prefecture of Dioîla, region of Koulikoro (second administrative region of the republic of Mali.)

The women came to know each other as relatives, neighbors and friends. They are in the business of perfume, charcoal, spices, grains, and cow's milk. The women of the group are on their third group loan.

Fanta, the second person from the left in the row of seated women in the photo, plans to purchase 10kg of "gueni", 2kg of "magnon kisseni" (a plant), and 5 bottles of perfume, most often from the sellers in Bamako and Fana, in order to resell them to customers of the village and surrounding area. She hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 25,000 francs CFA which she will use for her family's needs and to reinvest in her business.
