Benkadi Group's story

The group Benkadi is composed exclusively of married women, who average 37 years of age and four children each, all living in traditional extended families in the village of Warassala, Commune de Guégneka, Préfecture de Dioîla, Région de Koulikoro (2nd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women know one another through ties of kinship, community, and friendship. They do commerce in soaps, charcoal, condiments, and firewood. The women of the group Benkadi are on their third solidarity loan.

This client, KADIATOU, who is sitting second from the right, intends to purchase a bag of Gabakourouni soap and 20 sacks of charcoal from Fana suppliers. Then she will resell the goods to customer in and around the village. She envisions making an average monthly profit of 20,000 francs CFA that will be used to meet family needs. Part of the profits will be reinvested in her soap and charcoal business.
