A loan of $850 helped to buy perfumes, creams, casual and active clothing.

Maria's story

Maria lives in Malambo, a metropolitan municipal area in Barranquilla. She lives with her family which consists of her spouse and her 3 children between the ages of 13 and 23 years. Since she was 12 years old, she has worked as a merchant, the main goods being creams and perfumes. These are sold in cash or credit, depending on the characteristics of the customer.

From 8 in the morning until 8 at night, she works in her business, because her main goal is to increase sales, to better her family's lifestyle. Although, her biggest challenge has been reliable funding sources and receiving it at a low cost. She has found this possibility with the Kiva credit, to increase her purchases and make them cash based, because she had them based on credit for the last season.

Her dream since she began her business has been to support her spouse, in response to the household expenses, by using this commercial activity. Through her sales, she has gained access to 3 specialized products, with which she has expanded the good she can offer and achieve her biggest dream, to better her family's lifestyle.

She is currently applying for a Kiva credit, first financed by Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, that will help her to buy perfumes, creams, casual and active clothing. With this, she can increase her inventory and could better serve her customers to make higher profits in her business.
