A loan of $725 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Celia's story

Celia is a 31 year old woman, married to Marcelino. They have 3 children with whom they live in their adobe house. 10 years ago Celia started farming the most profitable products. She grows them on a two hectare plot that was given to her by her parents when she got married. Farming is a very demanding activity but since the beginning it has helped her provide for her family, with the support of her husband.

Celia grows organic cocoa, followed by barbasco (native tropical American plant) and a few fruit trees. In order to keep up with the work they constantly hire local labor, paid by the day. Celia says that she needs working capital to invest in her plantations and successfully manage the growing season. What she enjoys most about her work is selling the dried cocoa beans to the local buyers, as she gets paid immediately and gets back the money she has invested. She has many long term goals, one of them being able to support her children while they are young so they can grow up to be professionals.

This is her first loan with Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support so she can move forward. She promises to pay her installments in a timely fashion. This loan is for 2,000 PEN so she can buy organic fertilizer for her crops.
