A loan of $2,100 helped a member to pay for purchasing fertilizers, pesticides, seeds and to cover their operational costs.


Charchika Mahila Mandal Group's story

The group Charchika Mahila Mandal has nine members who are all from the same neighborhood. The lady standing second from the left-hand side in the photo is Gitanjali who is the leader of the group. Gitanjali is a 45-year-old woman, married to a worker of Tangi village in Odisha, India. The couple has two children who are in school. Jayanti lives with her children and, together with her husband, takes care of all the household expenses.

In order to help with all the family expenses, Gitanjali has been involved in doing paddy cultivation and selling her produce to distributors for the past five years. She supplies her rice to the rice dealers in the nearby market. In order to strengthen the business and respond to client demand, Gitanjali, together with the group Charchika Mahila Mandal, are requesting a loan from Peoples Forum for purchasing fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, and to cover their operational costs. Their goal is to increase their business activity.
