Ma Remedios's story

Remedios, or Reme as she is commonly known, lives in a place know as "El Oro" (The Gold) as it is a former gold mining area. It is also well known because there is a train carriage that is used as a restaurant. Reme tells us "This carriage was just a small part of the train that was left here, but now it functions as a restaurant and people know it well, the best product is the delicious coffees."

Reme is a hard working woman who is always very happy. She is 46 years old and has been married to León for 25 years; they have a family together and have three children, one of whom is still in secondary school.

Reme has made school uniforms for a living for 22 years. "I worked with a man who made uniforms and I learnt from him, then I taught my husband and he knows more than me now. We started working alone with a single machine making little dresses for girls", Reme tells us. Little by little the workshop grew thanks to loans of an alternate finance company for a long time, after a long time with this other company she encountered Vision Fund and KIVA and decided to change.

Now she is requesting a loan to buy fabric threads and stockings, she will also use the loan to maintain her sewing machines. She used the loan to pay for fabric and proved to be reliable, now she is very happy because she can make her deposit, pay on time and she will be able to deliver her orders on time. The uniforms she has made to date are because her customers came to order their uniforms and paid a deposit so she had the security of selling the uniform when it is made.

It seems that she will have no trouble succeeding with her business although she would like an embroidery machine so she will no longer have to pay others for this service. They will make a great effort to buy the embroidery machine to be able to improve the business.
