A loan of $400 helped buy farming supplies and seeds for her coffee farm.

Ma Eufracia's story

Eufracia is an enterprising woman aged 31. Together with her husband and five children she grows crops such as corn and beans but coffee is the main crop. She learned about farming more than five years ago from her husband who taught how to do different activities such as weeding, fertilizing, pruning etc. The corn and bean fields are located close to her house, but the coffee is grown about five kilometres away so she goes there every day on foot.

Eufracio only completed grade three as her parents are poor and couldn't afford anything further. Her dream is that her children get an education and have a better standard of living. She would like them to attend university. Her four older children help on the farm when they aren't studying, and the youngest is still small.

She is now seeking a loan from the COMIXMUL Cooperative to buy 3 loads of urea, 4 lots of 18-46-0 fertilizer, 5 lots of 12-24-12 fertilizer, 4 liters of leaf fertilizer, 2 gallons of herbicide, and 6 loads of corn and beans to plant. Eufracia knows it is important that the crops are well cared for so that she earns more money for her home and family.
