A loan of $500 helped to buy seeds, fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide, and payoff farmland rent.

José Alcides's story

José is 45 years old, completed a 3rd grade education, is married, and his wife takes care of their home. They have three children ages 15, 12, and 9, who live with him and are in school.

José has been a farmer for 11 years, a profession he learned from the husband of one of his aunts. He needed to learn from someone else since his parents didn't raise him and it was his aunt who always took care of him. Another job he has is as a brick layer. He farms in a location approximately 500 meters from his home, and his wife and oldest daughter help with the farming.

The loan will be used to buy seeds, fertilizer, insecticide, and herbicide and to pay off the rent for the farmland. With the harvest he plans to repay the loan and with the earnings he is planning to start a business selling bibles and hymnals. He plans on being able to plant 7000 square meters of land.

José has had a dream all his life of owning his own business and vehicle in order to transport his family. Another dream is to have a place where his children can live, he hopes next year to plan 7000 square meters more of land, but he knows that only by working hard will he be successful and with the support of his loans he wil see his dreams come true.
