A loan of $1,000 helped a member to buy ten sacks of fertilizer and to pay for the transplanting fee.

Sophy's Group's story

Residing in Sampov Meas district of Pursat Province, Sophy is 32 years old and blessed with three dependent children, one schoolchild and two little children. Sophy endures her family hardship via four hectares of rice-cropping, while her husband catches fish for resale and works for others for a fee for additional income. Engaged in her current business for ten years, Sophy is able to earn about 24,000 KHR per day.

Sophy is a fifth-time borrower and her fellow group member is a first-cycle client with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Her past loan has enabled her to maintain her business with good progress. In this new cycle, she and her co-borrower are seeking 2,000,000 KHR each.

As the leader, Sophy will spend her loan portion to buy ten sacks of fertilizer and to pay for the transplanting fee. She hopes that she can replant her rice on time, with a good income in return, so she can build a new house and a decent latrine for her family.
