A loan helped to buy a dairy cow.

Ryzhdi's story

Ryzhdi is in his sixties and sells dairy products for living. He is married and his children are grown-ups now, but the youngest child who is married lives with his parents according to old Albanian customs that nowadays are mostly kept in the rural areas, unlike in the urban areas. The people who still keep this tradition say that it is due to respect for their elderly parents and also easier for the youngsters who don’t have to built a house of their own from scratch.

In the picture, you see Ryzhdi. He is dressed like this because he was about to take a trip to the city for some personal matters and he was stopped to be photographed for Kiva.

Here is what he said to the loan officer laughing: “Usually you see me in another outfit with lots of dirt on it and with my hair all messy, but today I am all spruced up because I have to visit some government offices in the city."

Ryzhdi want to buy a young dairy cow with this loan.
