Carlos Alberto
Carlos is 18 years of age and an active, energetic, and enterprising young man. After finishing high school, he decided to continue earning income on his own so that he could support his household financially and help his parents. For this reason, Carlos decided to open a barber shop with one of his friends (seen in the photo is his business partner). This is why he is requesting the support of his first loan. He will buy two barber chairs, two vanities, one washing station, clippers, and supplies (gel, shaving cream, and shampoo) so that he can launch his business idea. Carlos says that he has an advantage since there is no competition nearby, so people will get to know him and he can gradually increase his clientele. This will ultimately be reflected in the amount of income he can generate. Carlos also wants to create one additional job. In other words, there will be two people providing barber services and another person in charge of managing the business and selling additional merchandise that he wants to include in his inventory (men’s shirts, jeans, caps, and belts). Carlos wants to fulfill his dream of earning his own income and helping his family with the financial responsibilities. As a result, he and his family can improve their quality of life in the midterm.

More information about this loan

By supporting this loan, you're helping a borrower launch a new business!

This loan is designed for an entrepreneur who needs working capital to start a brand new business. Along with the loan, Kiva's field partner Interactuar provides counseling, training courses, and other financial resources to help new, riskier entrepreneurs set up young businesses.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
