Rosmery, 59, is separated and lives alone since she had no children. For about the last 40 years she’s been selling merchandise via catalog and doing dressmaking. She learned these activities empirically and gradually perfected her technique. Thanks to her long history she’s succeeded in becoming well-known throughout her sector and this has generated the income she’s needed for her support.

Rosmery’s a hardworking, active woman who is always looking for options that will help her get ahead and she’s found support in loans she’s taken out previously because thanks to them her business has remained over time.

She’s currently requesting her 5th loan cycle to buy fixed assets (plane machine) and merchandise at wholesale (perfumery, cosmetics, costume jewelry, body cream). This will make it possible for her to continue with both activities because she’ll be able to provide better service delivering excellently finished items and she will also have a variety of merchandise on-hand to meet all her customers’ needs. This will be reflected in increased sales income. Rosmery dreams with giving continuity to her businesses for many more years so that she can enjoy an old age with better quality of life.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
