A loan of $1,575 helped buy supplies (shoelaces, fabric, rubber, glue) and to repair a broken piece of equipment.

Nelson De Jesús's story

Nelson is 49 years old, married, and has five children. For the last 30 years he has earned his living making and repairing shoes. With the income from this job he supports his family. He learned the trade on the job and then perfected his work through practice. He sells his high-quality products to family, friends, neighbours as well as to businesses located in his home town and more distant towns.

Nelson is dedicated to his work. He is enterprising and loves his family wholeheartedly. It is for them that he works hard every day. He is now seeking his sixth loan; the previous ones were a big help to him and his business. The loan money will be used to buy supplies (shoelaces, fabric, rubber, glue) at wholesale prices, and to repair a broken piece of equipment which is vital to his work. He will be able to use it to improve production. Nelson will be able to finish developing a line of runners which he had to stop because of a lack of supplies. The machine will help him streamline the process and improve the quality of the finished products. In turn this will lead to increased sales and income.

Nelson's dream is to be able to generate sufficient income to provide financial stability so he can pay for an excellent university education for his children and give his family a better standard of living.
