A loan of $1,100 helped to buy children's clothing.

Rosa Targelia's story

Rosa has been a member of the Siempre Amigas [Always Friends] credit group for 13 years. In that time she has developed a strong friendship with all of the other members as well as getting loans which have helped her in her household. She lives on the outskirts of the Valle de Cuenca parish, a place which is surrounded by green fields and natural beauty. The locals earn a living from rearing animals and in agriculture or many of them work in the city. They are friendly and helpful people who still keep up the traditions and culture instilled by their parents. Rosa is 55 years old and is married with 6 children. Two of her sons are married; one lives independently and the other lives in her house but shares the household costs. One daughter works to cover her expenses, one son is at university and the two remaining sons are studying at school. Rosa's husband is an industrial mechanic and works in his own workshop. They own the house which they live in. Rosa is a casual trader selling children's clothing. She has been doing this for 15 years and sells her merchandise on market days. At home she rears cattle, pigs and guinea pigs as well as growing crops for her own household's consumption. She will use the loan to buy children's clothing. Her goal is to extend her home.
