A loan of $2,475 helped a member to purchase chili peppers.

Los Pinos Group's story

The communal bank “Los Pinos” (The Pine Trees) is beginning its fourth loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Regional Office of Alto Lima. It is made up of eight members and is led by a board of directors, where Virginia is the President.

The businesses carried out by the members of the communal bank are varied; among them are a neighborhood store, selling chili peppers, selling palm wine, selling tools, and selling toasted cereal.

The loan that they will take out will benefit small microbusinesses, one of which Virginia belongs to. She says that she joined Pro Mujer a year ago at the invitation of a promoter from the organization who came to visit her.

Currently, she has a business selling chili peppers. She says that she learned this business from her sister, starting out with a little working capital. For this reason, that she needs to increase it now.

The loan that she will take out now is to increase her working capital (purchase chili peppers) that she will obtain in bulk from the traditional markets. Later, she will sell them in her sales stall. This type of work allows her to generate income to support her family, as she is married and has five children.

When asked what she enjoys about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the loans and the health care.

In this group: Virginia, Margarita, Veronica, Liduvina, Teofila, Eugenia, Silvia Lizeth, Justina
