Doris J.'s Group's story

Pictured above is a group of teachers from the southern city of Bo. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni city, in northern Sierra Leone, to apply for a loan of 10,900,000 SLL. With the help of this loan, they will be able to solve their immediate financial needs and then gradually repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Doris is the featured leader of this group. She was born in Segbwema 46 years ago. She is married to an NGO worker, and together they have three children, who are attending school. Doris has been a school teacher for 20 years now. She has requested this loan in order to buy house-building materials like iron corrugated sheets and cement for the construction of a dwelling house.
