As a resident from Takeo province, Sopheap is a 44-year-old married mother of two children. Her main sources of income come from from rice cropping, cow-raising, as well as her monthly income working as government worker. In addition, the family earns income through her husband’s occupation as a policeman. The current business has returned her about US$6 per day to cover their daily food and other necessary expenses.

Sopheap is not a new borrower with VisionFund(Kiva’s partner). After the successful loan that she has fully repaid, she can maintain her agribusiness well and keep supporting her children in school.

Now, she is taking out a new loan in order to support her daughter, who is pursuing her bachelor degree majoring in accounting. The loan will be used to cover the tuition fee. She hopes that this loan will fulfill her daughter's dream of getting a good job that is suitable with an academic background.

It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
